Adventure Training

Adventure Training is one of the most popular activities amongst Air Cadets.  ‘Venture Adventure’ is the motto of the Air Training Corps and as one of our aims we seek to ‘foster the spirit of adventure’.  How do we do this?

Watersports
Experience canoeing and kayaking and work towards nationally recognised standards

Climbing/Abseiling
Find out what it is like to abseil off a tower or cliff!

Expeditions
Fancy experiencing the thrill of being in the wilderness, in the UK or overseas

Map Reading
You will definitely need to know how to get around!

Teamwork
Understand the importance of working as a team.

Road Marches including Nijmegen Marches
Find out more about these Marches that take place in the UK & Holland

In the UK the Air Cadets has two Air Cadet Adventure Training Centres (ACATC’s) in Llanbedr in Snowdonia, Wales and in the Lake District, Cumbria, at Windermere. Cadets that attend these centres can experience rock-climbing, abseiling, canoeing, high-ropes, hill-walking and more.

The ATC places a lot of emphasis on skills such as Leadership, Teamwork and Initiative. Each squadron runs their own extensive training in these areas, but Air Cadets can also apply to attend the highly sought after Cadet Leadership Courses at RAF Cranwell and Frimley Park, which are week-long. There you can learn more skills to make you a confident leader, and put them into practical use with other cadets from all over the organisations. Cadets that successfully complete these courses gain the Air Cadet Leadership badge, recognition of a hard earned award and successful young leader.
